La Vernia ISD Newcomers' Fair

The LVISD Newcomers’ Fair will be held on August 7, 2014 from 6:00-7:30 in the District Auditorium. Please plan to attend. As always, we will have a welcoming address for everyone complete with mini-performances by our band, choir, dance team and cheerleaders. Families new to LVISD will then have an opportunity to visit tables sponsored by individual campuses, departments, etc. This year our tables will be set up in the gym across from the auditorium. We are excited to announce that the City of La Vernia, La Vernia Historical Society, and other community groups will participate with important and useful information for our new families. Refreshments will be available after the initial meeting in the foyer (thanks to Vicki and staff).

La Vernia BBQ Cook-Off

The Greater La Vernia Parks Foundation hosts its 13th annual IBCA-sanctioned barbecue cook-off in the La Vernia City Park. This 2-day family-friendly event has something for everyone. Not only do teams from across the state compete for the best barbecued chicken, beef, and ribs, but visitors can enjoy vendors, food, and fun, along with great music. Friday night will feature Johnny Kiser. Saturday, enjoy music by Natalie Rose and headliner Bleu Edmondson. Proceeds benefit the parks foundation, dedicated to improving the La Vernia City Park. Classes will be held from 13 August through 10 December in Seguin, Texas on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM. You will receive superior gardening instruction when you sign up for the Fall 2014 course. You will learn practical gardening techniques and values from faculty and staff of Texas A&M University and Texas AgriLife Extension, as well as from Certified Master Gardener Specialists. The cost is $190 and the registration deadline is 31 July 2014. Alzafar Shriners "Pulling for Kids"

Have a blast shooting sporting clays for a great cause! The Alzafar Shriners will host the third annual “Pulling for Kids” Charity Clay Shoot at the world-renowned National Shooting Complex in San Antonio on Saturday, Aug. 23. All proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children, which provide treatment to children -- regardless of ability to pay -- with a variety of healthcare needs. The event, open to shooters of all skill levels, will award trophies for Best in Class. Participate as an individual or in a team of five people. This event will also feature a complimentary lunch, auctions and door prizes Up to 20 participants will win a shotgun. The fee is $175 per person or $875 per team of five.
